[POEM] The Other Side Of The Story (A Poem On Rape) By Olufemi Damilola And Adeniji Lois

Oh! What a world we are in
Atrocities and beings with no conscience exists therein
Turning their acts to what people bear in (mind)
Seeing actions and inactions of their victims as excuse
Turning homes to Sodom, and destinies to Gomorrah
Having a like mind of Egyptians
They are the mindset behind the "Lost Paradise"
Toying with lives of young ones like dice
A responsibility for them till they die
While we all fold our arms and choose to lie?
For the young ladies, no recovery
But lingered in their heart a sad memory.

My innocence was taken away on the alter of sweats and cursing
I tried to cry and shout but nobody heard
The Man said to me in between the deal
"No one will believe you"
I told him he was wrong
Mama won't let this pass easily
But instead I was wrong
I was beaten up for telling a grievous lie against uncle
And that was it
My pains pulled along with it depression
The life time imprints on my soul was dark and obvious
It would have been better if someone cared to listen
And not blame it on the trousers I wore
