Expect More Of Lafta Unplugged Than Before - Sweet Steve

As we continue the Ondo Media Tour, the personality and broadcaster we met is Stephen Sotonwa (Sweet Steve), the popularly OAP and presenter. In this EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW, you read what he has to say about his lafta unplugged show and the Nigerian entertainment industry as a whole.

EMPIRE MEDIA NG: Who is Stephen Sotonwa?

SWEET STEVE: Stephen Oluwafemi Sotonwa is a broadcaster with experience spanning over 18 years. Born in Mushin, Lagos State well over 3 decades ago, attended Ojuwoye Public Primary School thereafter proceeded with his Secondary Education at Baptist Boys' High School, Abeokuta in Ogun State. He later graduated from University of Ado Ekiti (UNAD) now Ekiti State University.

He is fondly called SWEET STEVE, a monica given him by a fan during his early days as a Radio Presenter at Radio Kwara. Stephen SOTONWA (SWEET STEVE) is also a compere, ,stand-up comedian, event planner and CEO of SWEET ENTERTAINMENT and MODE66 MEDIA.

EMPIRE MEDIA NG: Every presenter has their taste in the Nigeria media world and yours seems to centre more on comedy and entertainment. Why comedy and entertainment and not other(s)?

SWEET STEVE: Contrary to your opinion, I'm a thoroughbred Broadcaster. I'm what a football pundit would describe as an utility player that can play any role given on a field of play.

It is important to note that you aren't a broadcaster until you know something about everyting. I've created, presented and produced many shows with different philosophies at one point or the other in my sojourn as a broadcaster. I'd however agree that I'm popular for the witty, funny and spontaneous character I put up on my Lunch Hour Show titled ORANGE CAFE.

EMPIRE MEDIA NG: That's superb. When did Sweet Steve started as a broadcaster, officially; Stations worked for and experiences?

SWEET STEVE: Sweet Steve started broadcasting in 2001 at Kwara State Television (KWTV) and has worked with many stations including Radio Kwara, Midland fm, Ilorin, Star fm, Lagos, Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (Radio and TV), Progress fm, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Hot fm, Owerri and now Orange fm and OSRC.

EMPIRE MEDIA NG: Your popular comedy show, Lafta Unplugged was held last year and previous years. What is the motive behind the Lafta Unplugged comedy show, known within Ondo State especially, and southwestern part of the country?

SWEET STEVE: Laffta Unplugged is a premium annual comedy show which since its maiden edition in 2013 has served as a platform for discovering new comics and has given them opportuinity to share stage with heavy weights in the comedy industry. The crowd that gathers for the show yearly is a testimony to its acceptability and how much fun people enjoy at  the event.

EMPIRE MEDIA NG: Rate at which entertainment industry, especially music operates in the society, the societal ethics and value. Does that really take us to where we tend going?

SWEET STEVE: Economically, YES! Morally, NO! Our moral values is gradually down the drain with vulgar lyrics and lewd music videos.

The days of sensible songs are over. Music Artistes are no longer singing for posterity.
Commercial viability has become the gauge for measuring the success of a song.

EMPIRE MEDIA NG: How can you rate Nigeria in Africa's entertainment?

SWEET STEVE: We are Numero Uno, Nulli Secundus.

EMPIRE MEDIA NG: So far, govt seems not have been supporting/giving consideration to the entertainment industry unlike the sports sectors and others. In what way will you want government to support/improve in its services in the entertainment industry?

SWEET STEVE: The Government has a lot to do to support the Industry but thank God the Private sector has been very supportive.

EMPIRE MEDIA NG: What's your advice for upcoming entertainers?

SWEET STEVE: Keep your dream alive and believe in yourself. Be patient, seek opportunities and stay Humble. TRUST THE GOD FACTOR.
